With the chillier weather just around the corner or already setting in – depending on where you’re at – Prometheus Design Werx has announced their latest goodies designed to keep you comfortable in the great outdoors.
First up is their new down filled “cardigan” called the Kepler. If the word cardigan makes you think of your dad’s or grandfather’s sweater, then you might appreciate this old ‘dad joke’: Q. “How do you get down off an elephant?” A. “You don’t get down off an elephant, you get down off a goose.” PDW’s Kepler Down Cardigan is anything but old-fashioned though, it is a technical, performance, full zip, collared down “sweater”, that packs small, is water repellent inside and out, and constructed with high-count stitched baffles.
It is also filled of course with down, but not just any old down – it’s filled with state-of-the-art, Dupont-treated, premium 800 fill RDS certified goose down. There is no more thermally efficient insulating fill material than nature’s goose down and if you want to know why, PDW has written this very informative Blog post, “Down 101“.
Unique design details include an integrated stuff-sack storage camp pillow and detachable travel neck pillow, 6 pockets, a cozy brushed collar liner, and a 20D mini-ripstop nylon shell with DWR and Dupont Silvadur anti-microbial treatment. The Kepler Down Cardigan is available in Mission Gray, and Expedition Green.
New for this autumn and winter is PDW’s Neck Gaiters made from Polartec Windpro® and Microfleece. PDW Neck Gaiters are light-weight, packable, wind-proof, and use a shock cord cinch to seal out drafts.
Retaining body heat by keeping the blood warm around the neck is one of the most efficient ways of fighting hypothermia and wind-chill. PDW Neck Gaiters feature bias cut for excellent throat coverage with a better fit under cold weather mid-layers and shells, the longer length at the front also allows the wearer to pull up and cover mouth and nose when needed.
